Autonomous Electromagnetic Rail Car Platform
22.09.2023
Polish company Nevomo has released a video showcasing trials of an autonomous rail car platform utilizing electromagnetic propulsion, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
These trials were conducted on a 720-meter track near the town of Nova Sazhina.
Components of the MagRail Booster linear motor amplifier were installed on a freight car leased by GATX, enabling the car to move without the need for a locomotive.
Newag and Hyundai are looking to jointly produce high-speed trains
These platforms can autonomously couple or decouple from other railcars and reach speeds of up to 160 km/h.
The implementation of this technology is planned for 2024-2025.
Nevomo emphasizes that their technology enables railcars to move autonomously, particularly on the “last mile.”
Previously, the company presented results of testing a trolley on a passive magnetic cushion designed for passenger rolling stock.
