The new high-speed rail line will connect the two major cities, cutting through Canada’s most densely populated corridor. Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the $3.9 billion design phase investment in February, with the entire project taking up to six years to complete.
The “Cadence” consortium, led by AtkinsRéalis, includes CDPQ Infra, Keolis, Systra, SNCF Voyageurs, and Air Canada. Together, they will develop and operate the high-speed rail system, bringing essential expertise to the complex project.

Stéphanie Vaillancourt, president of AtkinsRéalis Canada, emphasized the socio-economic benefits of the high-speed rail. It will boost productivity, drive economic growth, and improve access to housing and jobs outside of major urban centers. Additionally, the project will reduce road congestion, offering a sustainable alternative to cars and planes.
This rail project aligns with Canada’s sustainability goals, contributing to a cleaner and more efficient transportation network. It promises long-term benefits for citizens, businesses, and the national economy.
AtkinsRéalis, with around 37,000 employees worldwide, including 8,000 in Canada, continues to lead in consulting, engineering, design, and project management services. The Cadence consortium is now beginning the detailed design phase that will define the future of high-speed rail in Canada.
