The Pilsen City Transport Company (PMDP) selected Arriva Vlaky through a competitive bid to manage the P3 corridor. This vital line runs 50 km west of Pilsen, just 25 km from the Bavarian border.

Arriva will operate Stadler’s GTW diesel multiple units (DMUs), which are already serving passengers in Zlín and South Moravia. The company began operations in South Moravia in December 2024.

Each DMU offers 100 seats, air conditioning, and modern passenger information systems. The trains will also feature ETCS safety equipment, meeting all regional transport standards.

These units will wear the official Plzeň region colors: blue bodies with yellow doors. The design mirrors the region’s electric P1 trains and buses, reinforcing service consistency across networks.

New Rail Contract Will Boost Regional Train Services

Under the new Rail Contract, weekday operations between Pilsen and Domažlice will include 16 train pairs. Additional express trains will also run along the upgraded P3 route.

Service between Pilsen and Nýřany, extending to Stod, will improve dramatically. While only four train pairs currently run on weekdays, this number will grow to ten, reducing travel time and congestion.

Arriva Expands Its Presence in Czech Railway Market

In May 2023, Arriva signed a $89 million contract to manage services in the broader Pilsen region, marking its entry into the country’s electric rail sector.

The company followed this with another major win in June 2023, when it secured a contract to operate South Moravia’s rail network. These services are scheduled to start in late 2024.

With each new project, Arriva strengthens its role in the Czech transportation market. The latest Rail Contract confirms its growing influence in regional rail development.
