This efficient route connects Scotland and the Midlands, reducing carbon emissions. Products are transported from stations near Amazon’s fulfilment centres, enabling faster and greener deliveries.
Amazon Invests in Electric Trucks and Urban Delivery Solutions
Amazon has ordered 140 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 and eight Volvo FM Battery Electric trucks. These vehicles, with a range of 310 miles (500 km), will handle over 300 million packages annually. To support this, Amazon is installing fast chargers, including 360kW units, across its facilities.
In London, Amazon delivers parcels on foot using restockable carts supported by electric vans. This method, operating in areas like Hackney and Westminster, reduces congestion and promotes sustainability. Over 70% of London’s Congestion Charge zone now relies on electric delivery methods.
Since 2022, Amazon’s electric vans and cargo bikes have made 150 million deliveries in the UK, replacing trips by fuel-powered vans. Drivers have logged 19 million electric van miles and cycled 900,000 miles.
Nicola Fyfe, EU VP of Amazon Logistics, emphasizes the company’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. She highlighted how Amazon’s electric rail, trucks, and urban delivery solutions are transforming logistics.
These groundbreaking measures align with Amazon’s sustainability goals, reducing emissions while enhancing operational efficiency. The company aims to set new standards for eco-friendly logistics, leading the way in climate-conscious innovation.
