Alstom Wins $2.4 Billion Contract from New York’s MTA

Alstom has signed a €2 billion ($2.4 billion) contract with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority to deliver 316 M-9A railcars by 2032 for LIRR and Metro-North service. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The agreement includes 160 cars for the Long Island Rail Road and 156 for Metro-North Railroad. Initial pilot railcars will arrive in 2029, and full operations should begin in 2030.

Alstom confirmed the order will be booked in the second quarter of its 2025–2026 fiscal year. This deal supports MTA’s goal of upgrading regional transportation infrastructure.
MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber described the contract as part of a $10.9 billion capital program that will eventually purchase nearly 2,000 new railcars.
