The project will create nearly 300 manufacturing jobs across Alstom’s New York facilities. Final assembly will occur in Hornell, with car body shells produced at the newly launched Plant 4. Bogies will be built in Plattsburgh, and propulsion systems in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

This initiative highlights Alstom’s role as a leading American railcar manufacturer and underscores the significance of the Alstom MTA railcar contract for local economies.

Boosting New York Jobs and Manufacturing

Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas, emphasized that the deal supports both public transit and New York workers. “We are proud to deliver cutting-edge trains built by local hands for local communities,” he said. Senator Chuck Schumer praised the contract as a vital boost to the region’s economy, while Senator Gillibrand and other officials noted its impact on infrastructure and jobs.

LIRR, the busiest commuter railroad in the U.S., will receive 160 of the cars, while Metro-North will operate 156. These trains will comply with MTA’s latest cybersecurity standards and be fully electric, improving energy efficiency and sustainability. With this order, Alstom will have delivered around 5,400 commuter and subway cars to the MTA.

Sustainable Urban Transit with Adessia Trains

Part of the company’s Adessia product line, the new M-9A vehicles represent the next generation of urban mobility. These trains combine advanced design with sustainability, and they can operate on both electrified and non-electrified tracks.

Alstom continues to expand its footprint across the U.S., providing over 12,000 rail vehicles to major cities and airports. The Alstom MTA railcar contract strengthens the company’s leadership in rail innovation and reinforces its commitment to American-made transportation solutions.
