Alstom upgrades the automation system of Madrid Metro Line 6

Alstom has signed a contract to automate Line 6 of the Madrid Metro. The new Urbalis signaling system will make the line fully autonomous. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Modern technologies for Madrid Metro
The new Urbalis system from Alstom will increase the automation level of the metro line to GoA4. This will enhance safety and capacity while reducing energy consumption for its operation.

The contract includes the design, installation, and commissioning of the new equipment. Additionally, an ATS system will be implemented to provide more precise control over train movement and technical condition monitoring.
Rolling stock upgrade
As part of the modernization, Madrid Metro is also upgrading its trains. In June of last year, a contract was signed with CAF for the delivery of 40 six-car trains. The total value of the deal amounted to €400 million.
The new trains are designed to meet modern operational requirements and are equipped with a lifecycle optimization system. This will reduce maintenance costs and extend the service life of the trains.
