Alstom to Supply Three Traxx Universal Electric Locomotives to Captrain Polska: A New Phase in International Transport
30.08.2024
Alstom has signed a contract with Captrain Polska for the delivery of three multifunctional Traxx Universal electric locomotives, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

These locomotives, intended for routes from Poland to France via Austria, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg, will be certified for operation in all the countries where they are planned to be used.

The locomotives will be manufactured at Alstom’s plant in Kassel, Germany, with the bodies being produced by a facility in Wrocław, Poland.
With over ten years of experience operating Traxx locomotives, including both multi-system and DC models, Captrain Polska has decided to purchase its own locomotives instead of continuing its rental practice.
Previously, the company used electric locomotives rented from Akiem, a major leasing firm. Captrain Polska’s new strategy focuses on developing the repair capabilities of its own facility in Wołów, which will specialize in servicing Traxx locomotives.
The Traxx Universal locomotives are capable of speeds up to 160 km/h.
An important feature of the new locomotives is the Onvia control system developed by Alstom (formerly known as Atlas). This system ensures compatibility with the European Train Control System (ETCS), allowing for safe and efficient management of international routes.
Under the agreement, Alstom will provide technical maintenance for the locomotives during the warranty period. Additionally, to enhance internal expertise, Captrain Polska employees will undergo specialized training to enable them to perform maintenance on these locomotives independently in the future.
Thus, the contract with Alstom represents a significant advancement for Captrain Polska, strengthening its position in the railway transport market and improving its technological base for future growth.
