Mumbai Metro is undergoing modernization as Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed a contract with Alstom. Under this deal, 39 six-car driverless trainsand modern equipment will be delivered.

Advanced Technologies for Mumbai Metro

Under the contract, the MMRDA operator will receive 234 metro cars, CBTC systems, platform screen doors, and depot equipment. The project is funded by the German bank KfW, which provided a loan of €545 million. The delivery of trains and equipment will take 39 months, while maintenance will continue for 17 years.

The initial contract was expected to be signed in 2021, but Alstom withdrew due to delays in metro construction in March 2022.

New Tender for Train Supply in Mumbai Metro

In February 2023, MMRDA announced a new tender for 39 driverless trains, each with a capacity of 1,800 passengers. L&T won the bid and signed an agreement with Alstom. Now, the city will receive modern rolling stock that ensures comfort and safety.
