Alstom has signed a five-year strategic partnership with Storstockholms Lokaltrafik to upgrade and support digital systems across the Stockholm Metro, enhancing service reliability and passenger experience.

The new agreement builds on a prior rolling stock contract and started on April 1, 2025. It includes an option to extend for two additional years, ensuring long-term cooperation.

Alstom will manage digital diagnostics, onboard communications, energy tracking, and CCTV services. These systems are essential for efficient, real-time metro operations.

A key benefit of the partnership is 24/7 technical support, which allows rapid responses to disruptions. Alstom will also deliver frequent software updates to maintain system performance and adapt to future challenges.

Enhancing Stockholm Metro Reliability with Digital Innovation

To keep pace with urban growth, Alstom will establish dedicated testing environments. These will ensure new software and tools are fully vetted before implementation.

By proactively evolving its services, Alstom empowers the Stockholm Metro to operate smoothly and meet growing passenger demand.

The agreement also includes Alstom’s HealthHub platform, which enables predictive maintenance. This system monitors train performance and identifies issues before they cause service delays.

HealthHub helps reduce unexpected downtime, supports long-term planning, and increases passenger satisfaction through reliable operations.

Cybersecurity and Custom Digital Systems for Stockholm Metro

As cybersecurity risks grow, Alstom will safeguard critical systems with active threat monitoring and immediate incident response.

Custom digital solutions will be tailored to fit Stockholm’s specific transit needs. This flexibility allows SL to remain adaptive as new technologies emerge.

With more than 1,000 trains delivered across Sweden, Alstom is a trusted partner in the national rail sector. It also leads deployment of the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

“This partnership ensures long-term innovation, safety, and operational excellence,” said Maria Signal Martebo, Managing Director of Alstom Sweden.

Together, Alstom and SL are driving forward a smarter, safer, and more efficient public transit network.
