Alstom rolling stock on the tram line in Edmonton
08.11.2023
In Canadian Edmonton, a tram line with Alstom rolling stock has been opened, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The first 13 km section with 10 stations is now operational, served by a fleet of 26 seven-section Flexity Freedom trams operating at 10-minute intervals.
The Eastern Freight Corridor of Indian Railways is now open
The rolling stock was assembled in Kingston, Canada. In 2016, the contract for its delivery, valued at $280 million, was awarded to Bombardier Transportation (acquired by Alstom in 2021).
Each tram, measuring 42 meters in length, can accommodate 275 passengers, including 78 seated passengers.
The maximum operational speed is 80 km/h. The tram interior includes areas for wheelchairs and bicycles.
Alstom also supplies Citadis platform trams to Canada, with a recent contract for 34 trams signed with Quebec this year.
However, the company is facing challenges with the operation of the previously delivered 34 trams of this platform in Ottawa.
