18.09.2024
Alstom has successfully completed a major overhaul project for the bogies of the 390 Pendolino electric trains, operated by the UK’s Avanti West Coast, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Over the course of a year at the Crewe plant (UK), a leading center for train component restoration, 1,148 bogies were refurbished, with 770 bogies coming from 35 trainsets.

Each of these trains consists of 11 carriages, and their bogies have traveled more than 1.2 million kilometers.
Weekly, the traction motors and bogies were delivered to the Alstom plant by road transport.
At the plant, the bogies were disassembled into separate components, which were then cleaned and repaired.
The bogie frames were separated from the wheelsets and thoroughly cleaned of dirt and oil residues.
Afterward, they were disassembled, and all parts were either repaired or replaced with new ones. The bogies were then reassembled and painted, restoring them to their original condition.
In parallel with the bogie refurbishment, work was carried out to restore other train systems.
Pantographs, batteries, pneumatic equipment, and control systems were replaced.
In total, 24,456 assemblies and 9,511 parts were restored, and 249 pieces of equipment were repaired weekly at Alstom’s plants in Crewe and Manchester.
Special attention was given to nine-car trains, from which 378 bogies were refurbished.
The last of these trains, which arrived from London to Manchester on September 8, was sent for repair to Crewe in less than a day.
These results demonstrate the high level of skill and efficiency at Alstom’s plant, which continues to play a key role in ensuring the reliability and longevity of the UK’s rail fleet.
