Alstom Completed the Largest ETCS Level 1 Deployment Project in Ireland. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Alstom has successfully completed the modernization of Ireland’s railways by installing the ETCS Level 1 system on a 120 km section in Dublin. This is the largest project of its kind in Europe.

Alstom Introduced New Technologies to Enhance Safety
The Alstom project for ETCS Level 1 deployment aims to improve train speed control and enhance safety levels. The new system transmits signals through fixed trackside devices.
Company specialists installed 337 modern signals and integrated 450signaling modules. These devices transmit information to trains, ensuring precise movement control.
The installation and testing process began in October 2023 and was completed in November 2024. As a result, Dublin’s suburban railway network has become safer and more efficient.
Alstom Will Supply New Electric Trains to Ireland
Under a contract signed in 2021, the company is set to deliver 750 commuter train cars. This will increase the capacity of the country’s railway network.
In November 2024, the first five-car train arrived in Dublin and was showcased to the public. It became part of a large-scale modernization of the railway transport system.
With the ETCS Level 1 implementation, train movement management will become more precise and secure. This will also help reduce operational costs and increase transportation speeds.
