24.12.2024
Alstom is bidding for a contract to supply trains for Bhubaneswar Metro’s development project. The ₹5.1 billion ($60 million) contract focuses on modernizing infrastructure and supporting India’s local industries. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Alstom’s Role in India’s Transport Infrastructure Growth
Alstom, along with Indian firms BEML and Titagarh Rail Systems, submitted bids for the project. The deal covers the delivery of 13 three-car trains to boost Bhubaneswar’s public transportation system.

The ₹5.1 billion ($60 million) contract, announced by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), prioritizes timely delivery. All trains are expected to enter service within three years of contract signing.
Designed to carry 972 passengers, the trains will feature regenerative braking systems and GoA2 automation. Bhubaneswar’s metro aims to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion.
Alstom Strengthens Market Presence with New Metro Projects
Bhubaneswar’s first metro line will span 26 kilometers, linking the airport to the city center. With 20 stations, the elevated corridor will significantly enhance urban connectivity and infrastructure.
The contract mandates that only three trains can be manufactured abroad, with others produced locally. This approach supports India’s industrial growth and generates new employment opportunities.
Earlier this year, Alstom started producing 52 Metropolis trains at its Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh. The project is part of the fourth expansion phase for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
In October, the company delivered three automated Metropolis trains for Chennai Metro’s second-phase expansion. These trains highlight advanced automation, meeting international safety standards.
Bhubaneswar Metro Project Supports Economic Growth and Sustainability
The Indian government encourages localized manufacturing to stimulate economic growth and strengthen domestic industries. Localized production reduces costs, promotes exports, and advances technological capabilities.
Bhubaneswar’s metro project represents a critical step toward building sustainable urban transportation systems. The metro network is expected to improve mobility, reduce pollution, and ease road congestion.
Modern trains will ensure passenger comfort and incorporate advanced safety technologies to meet global standards. Alstom continues to provide innovative solutions, reinforcing its presence in India’s transport market.
Investments in local manufacturing create jobs, boost economic growth, and improve India’s competitiveness in the global market. Infrastructure development highlights India’s commitment to modernization and sustainable practices.
Building Bhubaneswar’s metro system demonstrates India’s strategy to develop efficient and eco-friendly transportation networks. These efforts reflect the country’s focus on modern infrastructure and urban development.
