Alstom proudly appoints Thabiso Komako as Chief Executive Officer of Ubunye, effective April 1, 2025, to lead rail innovation. He now oversees the company’s key manufacturing hub in Nigel, South Africa.

The Nigel facility significantly contributes to Ubunye’s success, crafting mechanical and electrical parts for trains and locomotives. Additionally, it offers top-tier maintenance services, incorporating cutting-edge digital tools to boost train performance.

Thabiso Komako, a skilled industrial engineer registered with the South African Institute for Industrial Engineering, boasts over 20 years of rail experience. He excels in refurbishing rolling stock, manufacturing passenger trains, and maintaining wagons and infrastructure.

Previously, Komako held the role of Rolling Stock Operations Executive at Gibela Rail Transport Consortium, starting in June 2013. There, he honed his leadership skills, managed diverse teams, and directed complex operations effectively.

Tristan le Masne, Managing Director for the company in Southern Africa, enthusiastically welcomes Komako to the leadership team. “His dynamic leadership, vast experience, and strong achievements will propel Ubunye forward,” Le Masne confidently states.

Alstom Strengthens Leadership with Komako’s Expertise

Komako’s academic background strengthens his capability to lead Ubunye effectively and strategically in a competitive market. He holds advanced project management certifications from the University of Cape Town and Wits Business School.

Moreover, he earned an Honours degree in Industrial Systems/Engineering from the University of Pretoria with distinction. Komako also completed a bachelor’s degree in Technology (Quality) from the University of South Africa.
