Kazakhstan: Decommissioning of Old Passenger Cars
The project history began in April 2021, when Alstom and DSB signed a framework agreement worth €2.6 billion.
Under this agreement, Alstom committed to delivering 100 Coradia Stream trains and providing technical maintenance for the next 15 years.
This contract laid the foundation for close collaboration between the two companies, resulting in the IC5 train.
The IC5 is a partially low-floor electric train based on the Coradia Stream platform.
Special attention was paid to meeting modern passenger transport standards in its development.
The interior design of the IC5 reflects Danish design traditions, renowned for their sustainability and attention to detail.
The train’s interior is finished using natural materials, such as wood and upholstery fabric with a high wool content, known for its durability.
Moreover, up to 96% of the materials used in the IC5 are recyclable, making this train an example of environmentally responsible approach in the transport industry.

The IC5 structure includes five cars, providing 300 seats.
The train has low-floor areas in the entry zones, ensuring convenient boarding and alighting for passengers with disabilities, as well as spaces for bicycles, strollers, and large luggage.

The train’s maximum speed is 200 km/h, making it ideal for high-speed, intercity, and regional services. The IC5 Coradia Stream is intended to replace the outdated IC3, IC4, IR4, and Øresund trains, providing improved quality and travel comfort for passengers.
Winning the Red Dot Award confirms the high quality and innovative design of the IC5 Coradia Stream, as well as highlighting the successful partnership between Alstom and DSB.
This project demonstrates how modern technology and design can be combined to create environmentally friendly, convenient, and efficient transportation for the future.

The success of the IC5 Coradia Stream at the Red Dot Award is an important step for Alstom and DSB in their pursuit of innovation and sustainable development.
This achievement underscores the importance of international collaboration and demonstrates how joint efforts can lead to the creation of products that meet the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
