African Development Bank Approves Major Loan for Rolling Stock Procurement in Mauritania. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The African Development Bank has announced a $150 million loan to SNIM, Mauritania’s leading iron ore company. This funding will support the rolling stock procurement for their logistics expansion program.
Boosting Mining with Rolling Stock Procurement
SNIM plans to use the funds for acquiring 36 locomotives and 1,743 wagons to transport ore. These resources will double SNIM’s transport capacity and enhance iron production by 2030.

The project also includes plans to build a 12 MW photovoltaic solar power plant. This initiative demonstrates SNIM’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.

The African Development Bank’s support reflects its dedication to inclusive growth and regional cooperation. Climate resilience efforts, such as risk assessments, will further strengthen SNIM’s sustainable practices.
SNIM’s contributions to Mauritania’s economy are immense, representing 9% of GDP and 37% of export value. This project will also create jobs and foster partnerships across the region.
“This investment is critical for our planned growth and ensures progress in our key projects,” said Mohamed Vall Mohamed Telmidy, CEO of SNIM.
