Adif plans to build a railway terminal
21.02.2024
In 2026, a railway complex is planned to be built in the Spanish city of Valladolid, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Spain’s railway infrastructure operator, Adif, has signed a contract for the second phase of the project with a consortium of companies, Lantania and Copcisa, for nearly 61 million euros.
A high-speed tunnel section is planned to be built by DB in Bavaria
The completion of the work is scheduled for the summer of 2026.
This project was announced by the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda in the summer of 2023.
It includes the construction of a freight terminal and a repair and technological base.
The freight terminal will cover an area of 230,000 square meters and will include nine receiving and dispatching tracks, container platforms, a control dispatcher center, a parking lot, and a logistics area.
In addition, the complex will include a technological center and a rolling stock repair and maintenance facility, managed by Redalsa, a subsidiary of Adif.
This project is part of a large plan to create a railway hub in Valladolid, including the construction of a 17.5 km double-track eastern bypass line.
This line will allow freight trains to travel from Madrid to France, bypassing the Valladolid-Campo Grande station, thus freeing up its capacity for passenger traffic.
The implementation of this project will turn Valladolid into an important freight transportation hub, ranking second in importance within the Atlantic Corridor of the TEN-T network in northern Spain, second only to the hub in Zaragoza.
