Railway line 102 between Ukraine and Poland is planned to be launched before the end of 2022. This was reported by the Polish edition Przemysl.Naszemiasto with reference to the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.

Restoration of railway line

“By the end of the year, we will repair the Ukrainian railway section 102,” Kubrakov said.

Line 102 runs from Przemysl to Ukraine at Khirovo, and then as line 108 through the border crossing to Ustrikami-Dolishny, informs Railway Supply magazine, citing Mintrans.

According to the Minister, investment in the Ukrainian part of line 102 should be one of many railway projects that Ukraine plans to implement in the near future.

The railway line will connect the western regions of Ukraine with the east of Poland. It is preliminary planned that the route will run from Przemysl through Nizhankovichi to Khirov, then through Smolnitsa to Ustrikov-Doshny and Zaguzha.

The Ukrainian side hopes that Poland will upgrade its section of line 102.

More than 600 km of railway lines to be repaired in Ukraine in 2022

Poland needs to restore 12 km, which are well preserved. According to preliminary estimates, the project will cost PLN 25 million (about UAH 178.3 million).

Almost 40 km of track connecting lines 102 and 108 passes through the territory of Ukraine. Part of the work on them has already been completed.

In Poland, line 102 is considered the most unusual in the country. In Soviet times, it was used by tourists traveling around the Carpathians.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the railway track was abandoned because it was not used. For the first time, the idea of updating line 102 was announced in 2016.
