The Government Agency of Strategic Reserves of Poland sent 120 wagons with 1 500 tons of humanitarian aid to Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia.
The largest humanitarian cargo was delivered to Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia on Saturday in a transport organized by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Government Agency of Strategic Reserves: 120 wagons with 1 500 tons of food, informs Railway Supply magazine with reference to polskieradio.
«This is a very large transport with specific, much-needed humanitarian aid, it is 1 500 tons of food destined for Ukraine – in this case, for the residents of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia,» said Michal Dworczyk, minister from the Office of the Prime Minister of Poland, who oversees the activities of the Agency.
The shortage of food, as noted by Dvorchik, is very felt there. “Among other things, we sent various prepared meals, canned food, pasta, butter, sugar, milk powder,” he said.
On February 24, a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Since then, according to the head of the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves Michal Kuchmerovsky, 73 trains with the support of Poland and other European countries have left for Ukraine.
The main supplies are medicines and food, which are priorities for humanitarian aid in many places, as well as medical and hygiene supplies, tents, beds and blankets.
Ambulances, fire engines, power generators, transformers and satellite Internet kits are also sent.
Another shipment of Government Agency resources was sent by rail this week.
The train arrived on Saturday. Michal Kuchmerovsky stressed that the railway is an effective way to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
“It must be remembered that assistance to the victims of Russian aggression against Ukraine is carried out with the great efforts of many brave people, public organizations, entrepreneurs, local governments and administrations. Cooperation is very important here, and any help from Poles to Ukrainians should be appreciated,” Minister Dvorchik emphasized.
“The directions and priorities of the support sent are determined in consultation with representatives of the Ukrainian government, with whom we are in constant contact,” he added.
The government notes that it is important that assistance meets current needs, therefore it encourages supporting Ukraine with financial donations.
The Government Agency for Strategic Reserves of Poland has launched special bank accounts fortransferring money for these purposes. They are available on the website www.rars.gov.pl.
