The National Railway Office of Morocco (ONCF) has declared a new competition for the procurement of rolling stock, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
As part of its development plan, ONCF continues to implement a competition for the acquisition of new trains, aligning with His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s vision for enhancing the national railway as the optimal choice for sustainable and inclusive mobility.
The European Union has allocated €129.4 million for the development of Polish railways
Five years after commencing the construction of the first Moroccan and African high-speed line, Al Boraq, Morocco reaffirms its success as a prelude to new achievements, aiming to connect territories and offer citizens innovative, efficient, faster, and modern mobility options.
Therefore, ONCF announces a competition to acquire 168 trains (150 for intercity transportation, high-speed route trains, and mass transit trains, along with 18 high-speed trains for extending high-speed lines).
This procurement aims to support the significant increase in passenger traffic, replace aging rolling stock, and ensure connectivity on the upcoming high-speed railway route to Marrakech, including public transport services in the Casablanca and Rabat regions.
With an ambitious investment of approximately 16 billion dirhams, ONCF seeks not only to purchase trains but also to launch a Moroccan railway industrial ecosystem with economic and social implications, creating jobs and strengthening national industry.
In September 2022, ONCF expressed interest in acquiring trains, receiving ten expressions of interest from major international rolling stock manufacturers. Given the project’s importance and complexity, ONCF will conduct a competitive dialogue procedure in stages as per existing regulations.
If the primary goal of this significant project is to provide citizens with optimal solutions for sustainable mobility amid the country’s rapid development, it is evident that the project also contributes to better preparation for the global sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, which Morocco, alongside Spain and Portugal, will host in 2030.
