£5.4M Accessibility Upgrades Completed at Tooting Station

Network Rail completed the £5.4M project in January 2025, adding lifts for easy platform access. Wider footways and CCTV cameras further enhance safety and convenience.

Thameslink invested £57,000 in a wider ticket gate for wheelchair users and passengers with pushchairs or luggage. The refurbished entrance and ticket hall now offer better lighting and a modern design.
A More Inclusive Travel Experience
Despite construction, Tooting Station remained open, minimizing disruptions. Network Rail’s Sussex Route Director, Lucy McAuliffe, emphasized the importance of step-free access for all travelers.
Govia Thameslink Railway’s Jenny Saunders highlighted how these improvements make train travel easier, especially for disabled passengers. She noted that enhanced accessibility benefits the entire community.
Funded by the government’s Access for All program, this project is part of a broader effort to improve railway accessibility. Similar upgrades will continue at other stations, ensuring a more inclusive travel network.
