Elf 2 to strengthen Lower Silesian Voivodeship transport system
11.08.2025
Elf 2 will arrive in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in 2026, increasing Koleje Dolnośląskie’s fleet to 45 trains and providing the region with modern, comfortable, and safe transport. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Elf 2 — new opportunities for the region
The Lower Silesian Voivodeship is actively upgrading its rolling stock. In August 2024, Koleje Dolnośląskie signed a contract with PESA Bydgoszcz for ten five-car Elf 2 trains worth $102.3 million. The agreement included an option for ten more units.

In July 2025, the operator exercised this option and signed a second deal worth almost $102.6 million. The first units will arrive in April 2026. Once deliveries are completed, the company will operate the largest Elf 2 fleet in Poland — 45 trains.
These electric trains can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, carry up to 540 passengers, and offer 250 seats. Each train measures over 90 meters in length and has eight doors on each side for faster boarding and alighting.
Elf 2 — technical features and routes
Each train is equipped with air conditioning, CCTV, passenger information systems, and free Wi-Fi. To enhance safety, they feature the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2.
Currently, Elf 2 units serve popular routes connecting Wrocław with Legnica, Lubin, and Zielona Góra. This improves transport quality and shortens travel times, which is especially important as passenger numbers grow.
Koleje Dolnośląskie, founded in 2007, has shown steady growth. In 2009, it carried fewer than 335,000 passengers, but by August 2025 the total had reached 150 million. The record year was 2024, with over 22.5 million passengers.
