Electroputere VFU received EU certification for modernized passenger cars

Electroputere VFU modernized railcars and received European certification. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Electroputere VFU has successfully certified its modernized passenger railcars for operation in EU countries. The factory in Pașcani is upgrading rolling stock for the national operator CFR Călători.

Electroputere VFU upgrades CFR Călători’s rolling stock
The company is modernizing 42 locomotive-hauled railcars, 20 of which will be equipped with spaces for passengers with reduced mobility. These cars will also feature areas for transporting bicycles and skis, enhancing travel convenience.
A contract signed in 2023 includes a €67 million investment, covering a nine-year maintenance period. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-2026, after which the railcars will enter international service.
Production development and new train certification
Electroputere VFU is also carrying out major repairs on 50 Siemens Desiro SR20D diesel trains manufactured between 2002 and 2007. The factory has already modernized trams and passenger trains for operators in different countries.
In 2021, the company introduced its own diesel train, certified for the Romanian market, but it has not yet been sold. Nevertheless, the company continues to develop new technologies and improve its transport solutions.
