The EIB has agreed on a $270 million loan with Schleswig-Holstein’s rail authority to finance the purchase of advanced Coradia electric trains, modernizing regional transport and improving cross-border connectivity between Germany and Denmark. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

In July 2023, NAH.SH signed a $970 million contract with Alstom for 40 Coradia Stream High Capacity trains, including 30 years of maintenance. This investment will boost efficiency and offer better mobility options for all passengers.

EIB Financing Boosts Regional Transport Growth

ZUG.SH projects 21.9 million passengers in the first year. Each Coradia Max train can carry 390 travelers and provides spaces for 24 bicycles, strollers, and large luggage. Accessibility for reduced-mobility passengers remains a priority.

EIB Partnership Supports Sustainable Rail Solutions

The new fleet includes the European Train Control System (ETCS) for safer and more efficient operations. Trains will meet all technical standards for cross-border service, supporting greener and more reliable transportation options.

Operations start in December 2027. Routes will connect Kiel with Flensburg and Tinglev, and link Hamburg to Kiel, Tinglev, Heide, and Wrist. These improvements aim to strengthen economic ties and deliver sustainable mobility.
