It will significantly enhance the reliability and availability of locomotives, while improving efficiency. The deal also aims to reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions.
Long-Term Goals for Egypt’s Rail Network
As part of the program, the locomotives will receive new engines, EM2000 control systems, and other advanced components. This will lead to a 50% reduction in oil consumption and a 3% improvement in fuel efficiency.
The project aligns with Egypt’s broader goal to strengthen its rail system and ease pressure on the country’s road networks.
These upgrades, alongside the rehabilitation of 99 existing locomotives, will play a crucial role in Egypt’s efforts to increase rail freight capacity. By enhancing service quality and supporting the localization of parts, the program will also boost Egypt’s railway industry.
