Egypt High-Speed Rail Project Boosts Sustainability with New HVAC
19.07.2025
Egypt is moving ahead with its high-speed rail project, introducing advanced HVAC systems to enhance passenger comfort, reduce energy use, and strengthen sustainable transportation infrastructure across multiple major cities and economic hubs. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Egypt High-Speed Rail Secures Advanced HVAC Technology

Egypt has awarded a major HVAC contract to Johnson Controls–Hitachi Air Conditioning MEA and Elsewedy Machinery for 21 high-speed rail stations. This collaboration ensures modern climate solutions designed for challenging high-ambient conditions.
Hitachi will supply more than 3,000 Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) units manufactured in Barcelona, Spain. These systems deliver over 11,000 Refrigeration Tons (RT) of cooling, Eurovent certification, and energy efficiency suitable for Egypt’s climate and transportation demands.

The 660-kilometer network will connect Ain Sokhna, Alamein, Cairo, Alexandria, and 6th of October City. Egypt aims to serve over one million passengers and transport 8,500 tons of cargo daily, cutting travel times dramatically.
Egypt Infrastructure Project Drives Sustainable Transport Goals
Ahmed Aqel, General Manager at Johnson Controls–Hitachi MEA, stated that the project combines global innovation with local expertise. He stressed the importance of operational excellence, long-term reliability, and technical precision to meet Egypt’s strategic goals.
Elsewedy Machinery will manage the entire HVAC scope, from installation to after-sales service. Their integration ensures optimized performance and seamless system deployment across the high-speed rail network’s 21 stations.
By incorporating European-manufactured VRF technology, Egypt sets new sustainability standards in infrastructure. This initiative highlights the country’s commitment to energy efficiency and climate-resilient solutions in large-scale transportation development.
With strategic partnerships and advanced systems, Egypt reinforces its leadership in forward-thinking infrastructure. This high-speed rail project will redefine mobility and logistics while supporting the nation’s sustainable growth objectives for decades ahead.
