Dublin Metro consortium moves forward with MetroLink plans
06.09.2025
The Dublin Metro scheme is proceeding following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Alstom, John Laing, FCC, Meridiam, and RATP Dev. The consortium will design, construct, fund, maintain, and operate MetroLink, increasing connectivity for Dublin and reducing congestion throughout the region.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Dublin Metro set to revolutionize city mobility and airport connectivity
The automated rail link will link the airport to the city centre of Dublin, allowing for faster and more sustainable connections. Therefore, the project will ease car dependence and provide energy-efficient, high-capacity trains for improved passenger experience.

In addition, the MetroLink will connect key employment hubs and residential areas and contribute to future Irish development. The government stressed that the new line is an integral component of modernizing the capital city’s infrastructure and providing efficient mass transportation for daily commuters and foreign visitors.
Consortium expertise powers Dublin Metro developments
The consortium complements expertise in railroad use, civil engineering, and financing. The members share sectoral expertise, enabling special inputs throughout planning and construction. Meanwhile, prequalification and bidding stages already have preparations underway.
FCC referenced its extensive experience in global projects, including Madrid, Riyadh, and Doha railways and major Irish infrastructure such as the expansion of the Dublin Airport and the M50 motorway. Government representatives, however, emphasized cooperation would have an important role in driving delivery milestones.
What is the Dublin Metro project?
The MetroLink or Dublin Metro is a planned driverless rail connection from the city centre of Dublin to airport and suburban regions. The system’s aim is to relieve congestion, increase sustainability, and improve the transport infrastructure of Ireland.
What Companies are Involved in Building the Dublin Metro?
The partners include Alstom, John Laing, FCC, Meridiam, and RATP Dev. The partners provide engineering experience, financing expertise, and operating expertise to ensure project delivery.
When will Dublin Metro construction begin?
Though the exact timing of the construction calendar is reliant on government approvals and bidding, consortium members are already planning for pre-qualification. Hence, early works shall subsequently follow after receiving final approvals.
