The ceremony of meeting the first container train from the southern Chinese province of Guangdong to the Odessa region, which was organized by the Ukrainian logistics company Uni-Laman Group, took place at the DP World TIS Pivdennyi container terminal on Tuesday, June 22.

According to the company’s press service, the train left on May 29 and arrived at DP World TIS Pivdennyi on June 19, the journey took 22 days. A total of 8 408 thousand kilometers were covered.
According to the report, the train transported 50 containers with furniture, electrical appliances and other goods.
The train has the status of a permanent one. This means that it will run on a regular schedule, which is included in the schedule of the State Railways of China, without delays and errors. Now this status, among other trains going from China to Ukraine, is unique, informs railway magazine Railway Supply.

The preparation of the project took more than three months. Uni-Laman Group became the Ukrainian operator of the container train, Guangdong GW Railway Operator Ltd. which is a part of the state corporation Guangdong GW Holdings Group Co., Ltd. became a Chinese operator and partners, CIMC-logistics acted as local agents in China. Arrival and processing of the train in Ukraine will take place at the DP World TIS Pivdennyi terminal – a modern container terminal with its own developed railway facilities.
“This train will help entrepreneurs receive goods from Guangdong and other southern provinces of China twice as fast, along with similar shipping by sea. Already today we see a great demand for this route, so we do not want to stop there and focus our efforts on further fruitful cooperation with China to expand trade between our countries. By the end of the year, we plan to increase the number of these trains to ten per month, and launch regular runs from other provinces of China, ”said Gennady Sorochinsky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Uni-Laman Group.
Game changing technology
According to the press service, in the future, the train travel time will be reduced to an average of 20 days. It is planned to send 50 containers in one train. The DP World TIS Pivdennyi terminal acted as project partners at the train unloading stage.
“The first container train from Guangzhou is a landmark event for us. Our involvement in this project is fully in line with the current global market strategy of DP World. The company sees itself as an active participant in multimodal logistics in the future, and is engaged in the development of multimodal projects around the world. Our terminal was chosen to meet the train from China not by chance and in many respects – due to the developed railway infrastructure of TIS “, – the general director of the DP World TIS Pivdennyi container terminal Igor Zhigor noted.
DP World TIS Pivdennyi is a leading deep-water terminal in Ukraine. In 2020, the terminal increased its annual turnover by 12%, despite difficult market conditions during the pandemic. DP World acquired TIS Pivdennyi in June 2020.
