DP World Launches Carbon Inset Programme to Cut Supply Chain Emissions
12.12.2024
DP World has announced a groundbreaking carbon inset programme to reduce emissions in supply chains. This initiative targets measurable sustainability for importers at its UK terminals in 2025. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

How DP World’s Carbon Inset Programme Works
DP World’s carbon inset programme will start on January 1, 2025, rewarding importers for reducing emissions. Each loaded import container handled at the London Gateway and Southampton terminals earns 50kg of CO₂e credits.

Unlike traditional offset methods, the initiative uses inset credits representing real emission reductions in logistics. Unifeeder, a DP World subsidiary, generates these credits by employing lower-carbon fuels across Northern Europe. This ensures transparent, verified, and impactful sustainability results for participating importers.
Why DP World’s Initiative Matters for Decarbonisation
The programme could reduce over 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions if half of importers join. This aligns with global decarbonisation goals, marking DP World as a leader in sustainable logistics practices.
Past projects, like the Modal Shift Programme, demonstrate DP World’s commitment to measurable environmental impact. These efforts reinforce its position as an industry leader in aligning operational efficiency with sustainability.
Unifeeder’s Role in Supporting DP World’s Goals
Unifeeder plays a crucial role by providing verified greenhouse gas reductions through alternative fuels. Its Director of Group Decarbonisation, Christian Hoepfner, emphasized their commitment to decarbonising logistics solutions.
This initiative is a step forward in reducing emissions and achieving global environmental goals. DP World sets a new standard for how logistics companies can align innovation with measurable sustainability outcomes.
