DMRC Sustainable Energy Policy highlights Delhi Metro’s energy push
24.12.2025
DMRC Sustainable Energy Policy took centre stage as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) marked National Energy Conservation Day–2025, unveiling the framework and pairing the launch with recognition for energy-saving initiatives across its network (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation press release).

The programme reinforced DMRC’s emphasis on renewable energy, efficiency, and environmentally responsible urban transport.

How the DMRC Sustainable Energy Policy will shape operations?
DMRC said the newly introduced framework is meant to institutionalise best practices in energy conservation and keep sustainability embedded in day-to-day routines. It focuses on efficient energy use, greater renewable integration, and systematic monitoring—steps DMRC says are intended to support a culture in which employees help reduce energy consumption and limit environmental impact.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency recognition for metro stations
A major highlight was the recognition of three DMRC metro stations acknowledged by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for strong performance in energy conservation and efficient operational practices. DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar felicitated the station teams and presented Certificates of Achievement. The corporation said the awards reflected on-ground measures introduced to optimise energy usage and improve overall system efficiency.
Employee awards and solar partner results under SAHYOG
DMRC also singled out individual staff members for their role in energy conservation in metro operations. Several employees received Energy Conservation Excellence Awards after delivering measurable energy savings through efficient operation and maintenance of systems. DMRC said the awards are intended to encourage innovation, accountability, and proactive involvement, while keeping employee-led initiatives at the core of its sustainability strategy.
The corporation also recognised its solar power partners, noting their association with DMRC for nearly a decade. Solar developers were felicitated for efforts to maximise solar power generation and strengthen DMRC’s renewable energy portfolio. Purshotam Rays Power Pvt. Ltd. and Purshotam Green Pvt. Ltd. secured the First Prize after achieving a 19.7% increase in Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) over the previous year, while Azure Power Saturn Pvt. Ltd. won the Second Prize for a 12.12% improvement in CUF during the same period, as reported by Rail Analysis.
DMRC said these outcomes were achieved through “SAHYOG”, a joint initiative launched with 14 solar developers to assess plant health and maximise solar generation.
Through continued adoption of energy-efficient technologies, renewable solutions, and conservation-focused practices, DMRC said it is setting benchmarks in sustainable urban mobility while working to reduce its carbon footprint and deliver reliable mass transit services.
