Polish-American transport negotiations are focused on the development of the Via Carpathia, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

Development of the Via Carpathia Transport Corridor.

A meeting between the Polish Minister of Infrastructure, Andrzej Adamczyk, and the U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Marek Brzeziński, is centered on the development of additional transportation and logistics solutions at the Eastern European border.

Moldova Needs Railway Connections with Romania and the EU

Military mobility is likely to remain one of the key drivers for infrastructure development in Central and Eastern Europe, and corridors like Via Carpathia will function as its major arteries.

Adamczyk emphasized to Brzeziński that the development of the Via Carpathia route, which will include a railway component in the future, is critical in the context of efficient military mobility and transport.

This pertains to cooperation and expanded transportation routes between the countries of the Three Seas Initiative, including Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Romania.

The first critical step in this regard was taken by including the Via Carpathia route in the EU’s TEN-T network in late 2022.

The Via Carpathia corridor spans seven countries and connects the Baltic, Black, and Aegean Seas, from the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda to the Romanian port of Constanța and the Greek port of Thessaloniki, including many other destinations along the route.

Since 2015-2016, the Polish government advocated for the inclusion of the corridor in the EU’s core TEN-T network, and this goal was achieved in December 2022.

This development has paved the way for much-needed investments that will transform the corridor from a highway into a railway route, which, in conjunction with other major regional projects like Rail Baltica and the CPK project, also part of the TEN-T network, can have a significant positive impact on CEE logistics and the integration of Ukraine into European networks.
