Prospects for the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM), as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
In late September 2023, a business forum titled “TMTM 2023: Innovation and Development in the Digitalization Era” took place in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
During this event, participants discussed infrastructure projects aimed at developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM) and explored strategic decisions and innovative approaches to adapting to the changing conditions in the transportation and logistics market.
From January to August 2023, more than 1.7 million tons of cargo were transported along this route, marking an 85.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
The forum commemorated the 10th anniversary of the formation of TMTM and the 60th anniversary of the port of Aktau.
Several companies joined the International Association “Trans-Caspian International Transport Route” during the forum, including Alport (Azerbaijan), BMF Port Burgas (Bulgaria), Semurg Invest (Kazakhstan), LTG Cargo (Lithuania), Global DTC (Singapore), and TOO “Istkomtrans” (Kazakhstan).
As a result, the association’s membership expanded to 25 participants representing 11 countries.
Agreements were signed regarding cooperation and responsibility for organizing cargo transportation via container trains along the TMTM route using feeder vessels. Additionally, agreements were reached on organizing container transportation in direct international rail-water traffic involving feeder vessels between the ports of the Caspian Sea.
Crucial aspects of collaboration concerning the organization of freight transportation in the China-Europe corridor, including TMTM, were discussed during a roundtable held on October 4, 2023, in Astana, dedicated to advancing the transportation and logistics potential of rail transport for cargo shipping.
