Development of the concept for building railway infrastructure on the Moon

American company Northrop Grumman, known for its innovative developments in the aerospace and defense industries, has entered a new phase of its space exploration research, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Mid-March brought an important announcement: Northrop Grumman was selected by DARPA to develop the concept for building railway infrastructure on the Moon.

This project will be part of DARPA’s ten-year program for lunar architecture research, LunA-10.
The main goal will be to create a network of railways on the surface of the Earth’s satellite for transporting cargo and people.
During this seven-month project, Northrop Grumman will not only work on developing the concept but also on determining the resources needed for construction, compiling cost estimates, addressing technological and logistical risks, and creating the conceptual design of the railway track.
Additionally, the company will explore robotics concepts for the construction and operation of the system, including foundation preparation, track laying, maintenance, and repair.
This ambitious endeavor opens up new perspectives for lunar exploration and its potential exploitation in the future.
