Deutsche Bahn halted the tender for 95 new high-speed electric trains of the next generation because no bids were submitted after the competition announcement in December last year. A company representative shared this with the T-Online news portal, emphasizing the lack of interest among manufacturers.

Alstom’s APS Technology Transforms Barcelona’s Tramway with Sustainable Innovation

The initial part of the tender is valued at approximately €1 billion and includes the delivery of 33 trains, each up to 400 meters long, designed to operate at speeds up to 300 km/h with 940 seats. According to the plan, two prototypes should be ready for testing in 2031, with serial production expected to begin in 2032. The new fleet of electric trains is intended to replace outdated ICE 1 and ICE 3 models that currently serve passengers on high-speed routes across Germany.

Reasons Why Deutsche Bahn Halted the Tender

Siemens Mobility and Alstom could have participated in the tender, as they previously collaborated with Deutsche Bahn in developing concepts for future ICE 5 train models. Siemens Mobility proposed its Velaro Novo platform for the tender, designed for a structural speed of up to 360 km/h, which would improve performance and service speed on national routes.

Future Prospects After Deutsche Bahn Halted the Tender

Deutsche Bahn hopes to attract manufacturers by offering more favorable conditions for participation.
