The train, which was headed from the coastal city of Alexandria, south to Cairo derailed, leaving seven carriages off the tracks. Ambulances were rushed to the scene and injured passengers were taken to local hospitals.

Transport Minister Kamel Al Wazir was on the ground at the crash site and called for the formation of a technical committee. It will also investigate the cause of the derailment and propose how to avoid similar railway accidents in the future in Egypt.
