Two contenders have reached the final stage: the Danish company DSV and a consortium led by the investment fund CVC Capital Partners from Luxembourg.

DB Schenker, one of the largest logistics companies in the world, operates in 130 countries and employs 70,000 people, 15,000 of whom work in Germany.

For DSV, acquiring DB Schenker could significantly strengthen its position in the global market. Increasing market share and expanding the range of logistics services would be the main advantages of the deal.

However, the merger of the two companies could lead to staff reductions and the closure of local DB Schenker offices.

On the other hand, the consortium led by CVC Capital Partners includes major players such as Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).

The investors plan to list DB Schenker on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in the future, which could keep the company’s headquarters in Germany.

The consortium is also willing to increase its offer to €16 billion if the German government decides to retain a minority stake in DB Schenker and become a co-investor.

DB Schenker is a strategic asset for Deutsche Bahn, providing a significant portion of the group’s profits. Its sale is considered a step toward strengthening DB’s financial position and focusing on rail transport in Germany.

Currently, Deutsche Bahn’s debt exceeds €30 billion, and the sale of DB Schenker could significantly reduce this burden.

Initially, several companies, including Maersk, one of the leaders in shipping, were interested in acquiring DB Schenker. However, in July 2024, Maersk withdrew from the competition.

The agreement to sell DB Schenker is expected to be finalized by 2025, promising to be one of the largest deals in the transport and logistics sector.

Thus, the fate of DB Schenker, a significant player in the global logistics market, depends on the final decisions of the two remaining contenders.

Both parties are ready to offer substantial sums and terms that could impact the future of the company and the entire logistics industry in Europe.
