DB is investing $217 million to modify 32 ICE 3neo trains for operations in France and Poland, introducing direct service between Berlin and Warsaw for the first time in its high-speed network. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The modernization, led by Siemens Mobility at the Krefeld facility, will ensure the ICE 3neo meets the specific infrastructure and signaling standards required in both countries. The DB network will benefit from this cross-border expansion.

DB Invests in ICE 3neo Upgrades to Expand Network

Dr. Michael Peterson, DB Board Member, said the company’s goal is to strengthen European rail by enhancing its international reach. The ICE 3neo will become a cornerstone of this plan.

He noted that rising demand for international long-distance travel proves the strategy is right. DB intends to unlock rail’s full potential with proper infrastructure support and long-term planning.

Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter also emphasized that the country-specific upgrades will deliver smooth, sustainable, and climate-friendly connections across Europe. The first converted units will launch in 2031, with deliveries continuing into 2032.

Passenger Experience Improves with New DB Train Design

DB has ordered 90 ICE 3neo units—29 are already in use. In 2024, these replaced older trains on the Frankfurt–Brussels and Frankfurt–Amsterdam routes, improving reliability and reducing cancellations.

Passengers praised the new train interiors launched in 2023. These include oak wood finishes, ambient lighting, and added personal space to improve comfort.

Other features include wireless charging in first class, motion-activated amenities in restrooms, and a baby seat in the accessible toilet for traveling parents. DB continues to enhance cross-border travel with smart upgrades.
