DART to Launch Silver Line Commuter Rail in October

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) formally opened the Silver Line commuter rail service on 25 October. The agency provided a free ride till 8 November, giving residents and visitors a chance to experience the service for free.

The 26-mile-long Silver Line links ten stations across seven cities, i.e., Plano, Richardson, Addison, Carrollton, Dallas, Coppell, and Grapevine. Consequently, it connects major business and living centers with DFW International Airport and offers seamless connections to TEXRail and the DART’s light rail system.

Compared to the light rail system, the Silver Line uses the Stadler FLIRT diesel multiple-unit trainsets for bigger capacity and more comfort. In addition, first-day celebrations for the new stations are set across the board and more details will surface closer to opening day.
DART Silver Line Will Improve Regional Transit
DART President/CEO Nadine Lee referenced the fact the Silver Line fulfills a multiyear promise by riders in North Texas. It was noted the line also would boost access to jobs, stimulate economic growth, and expand transportation in one of the country’s fastest-growing regions.
While the commuter line provides a needed interconnection of the suburban hubs and airport, the fact it complements the existing light rail and TEXRail service helps boost mobility throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth region.
Community Benefits and the DART Project’s Extended Impact
Board Chairman Gary Slagel emphasized the necessity of the Silver Line as an investment for today and tomorrow. The project aligns with the vision of DART in building a more robust and better-connected region and complements sustainable development in North Texas.
In addition, officials underlined the point that the Silver Line is more than a new transit service. It is a symbol for regional prosperity and a demonstration of how planning and collaboration can reshape mobility and unlock new potential for communities.
When does the DART Silver Line officially open?
The DART Silver Line begins operations Oct. 25 and will offer free rides from Oct. 25 until Nov. 8 to enable the residents to experience the new line.
