They will run on routes in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom, linking London through the Channel Tunnel. As they are double-deck trains, they will represent the first such trains to run under the Channel, marking a first for European mobility.
Each of Avelia Horizon trains achieves 320 km/h and transports more than 1,000 passengers with 20 percent less power consumption compared with older designs. Engineers created the trains to minimize maintenance costs as well as maximize efficiency, incorporating remote diagnostics to further increase reliability while decreasing downtime.
Henri Poupart-Lafarge, CEO at Alstom, explained that the alliance reflects Eurostar’s commitment to high-quality, environmentally-friendly travel.
“By opting for Avelia Horizon to refresh its fleet, Eurostar is making its commitment to combine technological performance, energy efficiency, and passenger comfort official,” he added.
Alstom Invests in French Rail Manufacturing Excellence
It will engage ten out of its fourteen French locations, such as Belfort, La Rochelle, Villeurbanne, as well as Le Creusot, in manufacturing the new fleet. They will accommodate power cars, interiors, control, as well as bogies, demonstrating its sophisticated engineering capabilities.
To accommodate increasing demand for its Avelia offering, Alstom will dedicate €150 million to increasing production capabilities. It bolsters France’s industrial core as well as the expanding worldwide demand for green rail solutions.
Frédéric Wiscart, Président d’Alstom France, a mis en évidence la contribution nationale
“With the participation of ten national sites, we are again showcasing the quality of French rail know-how and our capabilities to address the challenges of sustainable mobility in Europe,” he added.
Henri Poupart-Lafarge further noted that this megaproject embodies Europe’s shared vision for high-speed mobility via technological advancement as well as environmental sustainability.
