CTDOT has launched construction of a $33.2 million Naugatuck Station as part of its $140 million upgrade program for six Metro-North Waterbury Line stations. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The project, funded through 80% federal and 20% state resources, focuses on modernizing transit and boosting local development. CTDOT plans to complete the new facility by summer 2027, moving it just 0.3 miles south of the current site.

Commuters will benefit from a passenger waiting area, ticket vending machines, and real-time service displays. Upgraded safety features and electric vehicle charging stations will further enhance convenience and sustainability.

Metro-North Railroad President Justin Vonashek stated the relocation will make access to downtown easier and improve rider experience. Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto emphasized the project supports transit-oriented growth and aligns with local development strategies. He also thanked federal and state partners for critical funding.

CTDOT Partners with HNTB for Upgrades

HNTB, selected for construction and engineering oversight, will manage key elements like new platforms, ramps, and canopies, along with parking improvements and EV charger installations. The project also includes track realignment and signal hut relocation.

The firm will oversee the historic Derby Station renovation as part of the Waterbury Branch upgrades. HNTB leaders said these investments will deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions and ensure modern, efficient infrastructure for the region.

David Speerli, senior project manager, noted that CTDOT has already acquired new coach cars, which will enter service after project completion. This will improve quality, frequency, and reliability across the Waterbury Branch Line.
