The Shelby County Coroner, in a Facebook post, identified the person who died as 52-year-old Charles Harrison of Mountain Brook, Alabama, and said no other details were available for release at this time, as WVTM 13 reported.

What the NTSB is examining after the derailment?
An NTSB spokesman said a team of four investigators was en route to the scene to document conditions and examine the train and equipment involved. The investigation will focus on three primary areas — the human element, the machine, and the operating environment.
Planned information-gathering includes data from the locomotive’s image and event recorders, if available, and records related to inspection and maintenance of track, railcars, and braking systems. Investigators will also review signal data, dispatching information, and any electronic devices that could contain relevant information.
Calera is about 30 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama, on CSX’s S&NA South Subdivision.
