CRRC Unveils New Shunting Locomotive for Kazakhstan
22.05.2025
CRRC Ziyang has completed production of the hybrid CKD6H model for Kazakhstan — a modern shunting locomotive tailored to harsh climates and environmental demands. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The locomotive was built in Ziyang, Sichuan Province, and will be delivered to Kazakhstan in June. Design, assembly, and testing took just 14 months.

CKD6H operates in temperatures as low as -50°C. It combines a diesel engine and battery, while its smart energy management system reduces fuel consumption by over 45%.
In addition, noise levels drop by 80%, and emissions are halved compared to locomotives currently used by KTZ.
Shunting Locomotive Adapted for Extreme Conditions
The hybrid technology ensures both high energy efficiency and low environmental impact. This makes the locomotive ideal for shunting operations in Kazakhstan’s northern regions.
CRRC notes the unit maintains consistent power under low temperatures and variable loads.
Shunting Locomotive Part of Major CRRC-KTZ Contract
CRRC also recently delivered the first mainline electric locomotive CEA1 to TTT-Service, a subsidiary of private operator SilkwayTransit. This marks part of a larger contract with KTZ for 200 locomotives.
In 2025, the company plans to supply 90 units, including mainline and shunting diesel locomotives. Total investment in this project reaches approximately $300 million.
CRRC continues expanding its presence in Central Asia, offering innovations aligned with sustainable development and regional operating needs.
