CRRC to Supply Trains for ‘Astana LRT’ Project

The city transportation operator, City Transportation Systems, has announced that the Chinese train manufacturing company CRRC Tangshan will be the supplier of trains for the construction of the light rail transit (LRT) line in Kazakhstan, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
The total number of rolling stock required for the project is 19 units, with 5 units to be included in the initial launch phase.

It is reported that the trains for the light rail line will have a power of 115 kW and will be equipped with an automatic train control system at GoA4 level.
The ‘Astana LRT’ project began in 2011. In March of this year, the city’s transport and road transport infrastructure development authority announced that, with continuous funding, the route is planned to be put into operation in the second half of 2025.
The project includes 18 stations over a distance of more than 40 kilometers, with a track gauge of 1520 millimeters.
