CRRC to Deliver Metro Trains to Dubai Under $5.6 Billion Contract

CRRC will deliver metro trains to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the first time. The project includes constructing a new metro line set to launch in fall 2029. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The contract involves building the 30-kilometer “Blue Line” metro with 14 modern stations. Some sections will run underground, improving efficiency and expanding the city’s transportation network.

The project also includes installing signaling systems, power supplies, communications, and constructing a state-of-the-art depot. Deliveries will feature 28 driverless trains, operating with cutting-edge technologies for better performance.
The total project cost is AED 20.5 billion ($5.6 billion), securing CRRC’s competitive advantage. CAF’s competing bid was 8% higher, giving CRRC the winning edge in this tender.
CRRC Expands Its Presence in the UAE Market
CRRC continues expanding its presence in the UAE by implementing large-scale infrastructure projects across the region. In 2023, the company delivered three push-pull diesel trains to Etihad Rail.
Dubai’s metro system, which began operations in 2009, currently features two active lines. It operates 129 driverless trains manufactured by Kinki Sharyo and Alstom, serving millions of passengers annually.
