CRRC to Deliver First Hybrid Locomotives for the 1520 mm Gauge

These new locomotives will be the first hybrid shunting models specifically adapted for the 1520 mm railway gauge. The KTZ press service announced the details following a meeting between the company’s leadership and CRRC Corporation Limited Chairman Sun Yongcai.

The corporation will also open service centers in Kazakhstan to ensure timely and high-quality maintenance of the delivered equipment. Additionally, the parties discussed prospects for further cooperation, including railway digitalization and new technological solutions.

CRRC and KTZ Sign a $1.3 Billion Locomotive Supply Agreement

The companies also discussed the implementation of technological solutions such as track and catenary inspections. Other topics included acquiring high-speed passenger rolling stock and technology for automatic gauge width adjustment for freight wagons.

Previously, the parties signed a framework agreement for the supply of 100 shunting and 100 mainline diesel locomotives, with a total value of approximately $1.3 billion. Kazakhstan received the first batch of new locomotives in July 2023 at the Altynkol station during an official handover ceremony.
