CRRC Locomotives Expand to EAEU Market via Certification
09.04.2025
The Chinese company launched CRRC locomotives certification for the EAEU in April. Russian authorities issued certificates for CKD6S and CKD9C systems. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

CRRC Locomotives Enter the EAEU Market
Russian certification bodies granted compliance declarations under TR TS 001/2011 for five years. The CRRC factory in Ziyang produces them, and iCan serves as the applicant.

The Ziyang factory actively pursues certification across the EAEU since early this year. KazRailLocomotive in Kazakhstan secured over 15 documents for components.
CRRC Locomotives Master the 1520 mm Gauge
KazRailLocomotive certified axles, bandages, and brake cylinders for serial production. However, CKD6S and CKD9C locomotives still await full certification in the region.
Shunting CKD6S units arrived in Kazakhstan last year under a major contract. The carrier “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” upgrades its fleet for better efficiency.
Mainline CKD9C locomotives reached Kazakhstan between 2012 and 2014. Today, private operator Silkway Transit runs 16 of these machines.
China Boosts Expansion
ROLLINGSTOCK analysts in February noted China’s growing influence on the EAEU market. Kazakhstan emerged as the primary entry point for Chinese technology.
In Q1 2024, Kazakhstan issued 58 certificates and declarations for compliance. Of these, 43 documents, or 74%, relate to products from China.
CRRC reinforces its position and increases component deliveries to the region. Thus, the company targets modernization of EAEU railway infrastructure.
Kazakhstan backs partnership with China, and this accelerates transport development. Because an updated fleet enhances regional logistics efficiency.
CKD6S units proved their reliability on the 1520 mm gauge tracks. Meanwhile, CKD9C remain in demand among Kazakhstan’s private carriers.
Experts predict a rise in Chinese equipment supplies in coming years. CRRC aims to expand its EAEU market presence by 2030.
Certification unlocks new opportunities for Chinese manufacturers in the region. And competition among railway equipment suppliers continues to grow.
Kazakhstan benefits from cooperation, modernizing its railway network swiftly. But other EAEU countries lag behind in this effort.
