CrossCountry Launches 10-Year Sustainability Vision

It connects over 100 stations from Penzance to Aberdeen and from Cardiff to Stansted. Its network covers seven of Britain’s largest ten cities, with a day’s work involving 240 services that carry more than 42 million passengers a year. Due to its reach across the nation, CrossCountry sees its pivotal role in defining a sustainable and equal transport future.

2025 Sustainability Strategy is compatible with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which validated its reduction goals for emissions. It will reduce its direct greenhouse emissions by 63% by 2035 and reach net-zero operations shortly after that. Such intentions indicate a clear direction towards environmental responsibility and resilient operations.

CrossCountry Strengthens Communities and Climate Commitment

It forms its blueprint on three strategic pillars — People, Places, and Planet — encompassing eleven targeted initiatives. All three pillars look at curtailing waste, water consumption, and carbon emissions with cleaner air production and biodiversity restoration across local populations.

Jessica Lockwood, Environment & Sustainability Manager, explained that the program “mirrors what most concerns our colleagues, customers, and partners.” She noted that it bringing operations in compliance with climate science bolsters the social as well as environmental footprint of the business.

Head of Strategy Thomas Raynor further commented that “this plan fuels long-term transformation and sees rail as the inevitable choice for cleaner long-distance travel.” His statement emphasizes operators’ will to merge development with responsibility.

CrossCountry’s strategy also aims at innovation and customer value. With its promotion of inclusive recruitment, local collaboration, and sustainable procurement, it aims at ensuring that social development supports environmental benefit. They are yet again reinforcing its vision of a railway that provides both environmental and economic value.
