The total cost of the project is 3.5 billion euros.

This rail line, designed for trains traveling at speeds up to 300 km/h, will become part of the Mediterranean Corridor, linking the port of Almeria with the existing network that extends to the French border and terminates in Murcia.

Currently, the corridor passes through Barcelona and Valencia.

According to Adif AV, the construction of the track bed has been completed on most of the route.

Active work is underway on electrification and the installation of signaling and telecommunications systems.

Track superstructure installation has also begun. For this purpose, an assembly base has been set up in Librille, Murcia.

In the Almeria area, excavation is continuing for the underground sections of the new line.

Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Development, Oscar Puente, on August 13, 2024, highlighted the progress on a 770-meter-long, 16.5-meter-high viaduct spanning two highways in the Los Narejos – Nijar section.

One of the viaduct’s supports is installed on the highway’s central reservation, and the structure features weathering steel beams and a concrete slab.
