Construction of a Railway as a Step Toward Regional Integration

The government of Qatar on October 8, 2025, signed off on a 100-kilometer mainline linking Abu Samra, on its border with Saudi Arabia, to Doha. The line will connect the nation with Saudi Arabia- and United Arab Emirates-runned Dammam–Ghuwaifat route.

The new railroad would be added to the 2,200-kilometer Gulf Railway network due to open in 2030. It would link GCC nations’ largest cities as well as ports with a single transportation system that would be used for both passenger service as well as freight movements.

Furthermore, a 45-kilometer railway link across Saudi Arabia-Bahrain is set to be developed by 2030. This strategic corridor is going to increase trade, enhance connectivity, as well as increase cross-border logistics efficiency in the Gulf region.

Construction of a Railway Strengthens Qatar’s Transport Strategy

The Transport Master Plan for Qatar-2050 stipulates the establishment of a total transportation network comprising a passenger line to Hamad International Airport as well as a freight corridor from the Gulf Railway to Hamad Port and the Mesaieed industrial complex.

It seeks to make Qatar a significant logistics center in the Gulf region. And because GCC nations are already creating common transport legislation, it would facilitate easier movement of people and good while reducing logistics expenses through its integrated network, thereby boosting regional economic cooperation at a faster rate.

This is in line with Qatar’s overall diversification vision. Building new lines, uppingport modernization, as well as digitalization of railwayswill help position the country as a stronger player in international logistics with additional investment going into those assets as well.
